  • Have to admit, I am surprised he bothered padding the sides, the front, and the back - like, I'm almost surprised he didn't pad the bottom. Most car manufacturers will not pad the sides, front, or rear of the console - there's no point, you rarely make contact with those parts of the console. I mean, I get it, he did it for comfort, but I felt like he could of saved money and time if he didn't insist on padding every single side. Admittedly, this is inspiring me to try and build a center console for my 96 Dodge Grand Caravan - Something I really feel this van badly needs and sorely lacks.

  • Negative comment, but trying to be constructive: First, paint the hinges!! Also, way too many seams. Using self countersinking screws might make a difference since foam over metal seems like it'd indent over time. Next, using an iron and gradually stretching fabrics can really help eliminate seams and wrinkles. There are also specialty fabric adhesives. Obviously the inner box can just be covered in abs or another plastic material so it's not a big deal. I think the concept is pretty solid and useful, but the approach was more of a framing style process than something like finish carpentry and carpeting. I would never want something as ugly as that in my personal car, but at the same time, I love the concept of a diy console. Oh, and there's fibreglass too!

  • Really enjoy all your mechanic videos. Not trying to be rude but in my opinion I feel like you could have done better. Way too much foam and extra fabric. My father was a cop and the idea of the foam on the siding is cool but not needed. At least not that thick of foam. Anyways like I said I'm by all means not trying to be rude. With some adjustments this would be hands down badass for you not being a carpenter cudos I'm really into carpenter work like this. Definitely wish we knew each other and I coulda gave good pointers. Aside from that it's pretty good (like I said) for not being a carpenter.
