  • hey chris, i watched a few videos saying the filter change for the type of filter in this video is pointless as it is not a true filter but merely a screen? In these videos they mentioned the importance of cleaning inline trans filters and external canister style transmission filters like most oil filters. however they all stressed that cleaning this type of screen transmission oil filter is not necessary as it is not even pressurized or something. What do you think? should i drain and fill on my 06 corolla or remove the filter and change too?

    NaguNaguPrieš 16 dienų
  • Accidentally mistook my transmission and oil pans. I drained the transmission pan instead of of the oil pan. And I was so confused when my oil dipstick was twice the level. Realized, fixed the oil and decided to do it tomorrow to get transmission fluid. My sister tried to take my truck and of course there’s no transmission fluid so it didn’t move but now I fear that she may have damaged the transmission. is there a way to tell if it’s damaged?

  • My gf has a 2013 Chevy Equinox and when she stops the car starts shaking would that be a fluid problem

Pat The Logo GuyPat The Logo GuyPrieš 24 dienas
    • That wouldn’t be fluid. Check your engine’s air filter first, and if it’s dirty then you should replace it. It’s either that or bad spark plugs or clogged fuel injectors. Check your spark plugs, and if they look fine then it’s likely a fuel injector issue. If you want to save money you can simply buy a can of Seafoam and add two ounces of it per gallon of gas in your tank, then run your car. You’ll see a bit of smoke in the exhaust but that’s normal. Also, see if there’s a check engine light. Good luck!

The kid spoke really fast to try and confuse me, but I understood what he said, they don't shit but charge me $170 dollars to replace fluid. I don't believe they changed a filter nor did they show me how the fluid looked. I pay all this money for that? He almost argued with me too because when I called I was quoted and he told me "oh its really a call center" your speaking to they never give the right price. • If you're gonna go through all the trouble to take off the pan you really should install a drain bolt while you have it off. It is very easy and cheap. Many automatic trans come with a drain bolt on the pan from the factory, this way you can change that half the fluid without taking off the pan. You don't need to take it off or change the filter at every change, but if you only changed half the fluid, you aren't done yet. Also if you do need to take the pan off again in the future it's easier if you can drain it first. Since it's less than half the fluid I drain and refill my trans pan at every other oil change...very easy and cheap to do...

  • After researching a lot... it's just not worth doing this yourself anymore. I have a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500... which doesn't have any filter... it has a stainless steel mesh and when you do a complete flush of the transmission fluid it removes 98% of the dirt and it's not particularly necessary to open the pan. So I decided to avoid all this work and just get the dealership to do a complete flush, clean and replacement for $199. If I attempted to do this on my own... I would have spent nearly $100 on just the transmission fluid. Then you gotta add in the other materials that I would need and I'm unable to do the cleaning because I don't have access to the machine and hoses that does that job. So to save me a day of screaming and a mess... I just paid to have it all done. On top of all of that... if you do the transmission fluid change at a dealership... it extends your warranty. 👌🏽

  • Excelent advise. Thank you Chris. I have a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac, with same (ou similar) engine as your Mazda.I use Amsoil ATF and I Like it. I was going to take the truck for a transmission flush, but talking with my mecanic, whish I 100% trust, he told me that they don't drop the pan and only flush. So, I am going to do the same as you did, and because 2/3 of the fluid is in the torque converter i am thinking in changing the fluid another two times, but instead of droping the pan I will suk the fluid in the pan with a pump through the feeling hole. Do the second change say a month after the drop pan and filter and another one in two months time. I have allready used the pump once when I had overfilled the trans and works fine. What do you thing of my plan? (I hate that the truck doen't have a plug on the torque converter, but of course there must be a reason... Not having one on the pan, is better because it makes us change the filter, messy but worth it) Thank you.

    Roger DCRoger DCPrieš 3 mėnesius
  • so there will still be fluid in the torque converter? i had mine changed at mr transmission, I think all they did was what you done change the pan filter and fluid,,but i been hearing a cling noise when i put the car in reverse or maybe in drive too at times,,is this a normal gear engagement noise or is something wrong?

    • @ChrisFix yes also might be slightly happening when im starting and putting it in drive,,could just be normal wear n tear noise i suppose,,car is like 14 years old, lucky it made it this far without any serious engine troubles ,so far so good

      ARCSTREAMSARCSTREAMSPrieš 3 mėnesius
    • @ChrisFix it sounds more like something clicking or engaging possibly in the transmission or the shaft when i put it in reverse as im parking but its not always there ,so i thought maybe lack a fluid somewhere making the noise more noticable at times,,break pads you say? no my foot is still on the brakes as i put it in reverse and this cling noise happens,,i did change my break pads and rotor just recently and they been nice and quiet but this noise was around long before ,could be like you said about something worn like boots or mounts but sounds more like something coming from the axle or shifting of the tranny like a metal to metal engagement

      ARCSTREAMSARCSTREAMSPrieš 3 mėnesius
    • Correct, and if you don't have any shifting or other transmission issues and this only occurs when you're in reverse or when starting in drive, it's might be the brake pads shifting and making normal noise, or it might be worn motor mounts/axles!
