  • G'damn, you just put those other mechanic channels to shame. Rock on man! I was an optician by trade n couldn't believe the whiny-ness of them saying what a 'job' it is to do a timing belt. The kind of skilled, detailed work I had to do on glasses - without the hourly charge - made it kinda sick to hear. Sure, we didn't have major equipment like car lifts to pay for...but I couldn't even stand the scam that we had to sell. Progressive n coated lenses n such. I mean, fine if people want that. But most people just wanted to be able to see.

  • This looks simple...and has made me realize that I have been overcharged on the timing belt issue for my own car. Now that I know how to basically gauge the problem, I feel empowered to attempt solving it myself.

  • People learn something here many mechanics dont know what they are doing and will throw parts at a car to get it running, maybe. If you notice the distributor is not new as the previous owner was told. So you can bet the other stuff was not replaced as well but that owner out a lot of money from a thieving mechanic. NEVER EVER PAY FOR THESE TYPES OF SERVICES IF YOUR VEHICLE IS NOT RUNNING WHEN THE MECHANIC IS DONE. And you need to clean that crankcase, change oil, and filter it is filthy. I dont know how you didnt get a bent valve from that timing belt jump. Chris, fuel pumps dont usually fail while a car is running but come out of 711 and it may not start.
