How to Get Your Car to Make Sharper Turns (Steering Angle Mod)
Learn how to get more steering angle so your car can make sharper turns by removing rack limiters in the steering rack. That way you can make a U turn instead of a K turn. This works for cars that have steering rack limiters (spacers) and can be quick and easy to do.

I am going to post some short videos on Instagram (@ChrisFixit) answering some questions like if I was able to make a U-turn instead of a K-turn now. Also I am almost at 100k followers on Instagram so be sure to follow! Once I hit 100k I am doing a giveaway of ChrisFix swag with 7,000 winners!!!
@ChrisFix you have no tools hahaha
Great video. Do you know if a 2006 Nissan Altima has rack limiters? Thanks in advance.
So. Important question. How do I fix the steering after shortening the wheelbase? Got and 86 toyota pickup w/camper. Camper was no good so it got ripped off and it was awesome. Then it got cut and shortened about 4ft. And the overhang cut off entirely. Now the wheel base is the same as your mustang. I know how Ackerman steering works, I just dont know how to adjust it
@Sidemen Fan980 Good joke man about wheels and about Chrisfix -James M. Padre Juan
@Retro GOD Chrisfix is now your teacher of car fixing he will make you proud -James M. Padre Juan
be careful don't do that you can get fucked
Hey Chris do you consider yourself a master Mechanic?
Great info and presentation thanks
I like the driftstang
I like your car the driftstang
Reminds me of when I drive to work with a broken tierod. Good times. Peace ✌🏻
However, by installing the wheel extension disc you also reduce the turn circling diameter. Means that you make it sharper turn but then you re-unsharp it again by widening the wheel distance.. but perhaps in this video case you still sharpen the turn a little bit.
Why not get a angle kit
@chrisfix the Ford CMax by far has the worst turning radius
Your Mustang wheels are very cool
I have a question
Power steering pump moaning
I know this videos really old but I recently bought an 02 Chevy avalanche, is it possible to add a rack limiter to keep the turning not as sharp? When I turn sharp my truck “skids or slides” if I turn to sharp
this is what i was looking for since many days

Dude this guy really explains everything so detailed and he tries his best

Wait why is left has less angle than right?!
Ackerman angle!
Verified ✔ ChrisFix video! You used medium strength threadlocker!
if that was 90 degrees then that circle has like 420 degrees :)
my school board be blocking ChrisFix videos, I go on a alt acc and start watching for 3-5h straight of vids. then school be like, what did you watch? Me: ChrisFix. School: H O W? I got alt acc.

Hi Chris, my steering wheel on the SN95 mustang is sloppy like an old truck, it turned around but the wheel doesn't really move, how to fix this issue? I can't find anything good on youtube
TÜV sagt nein
everyone : *something breaks* oh nooo ChrisFix : *Something Breaks* YESSS new video
Never, and I mean, NEVER do that. Your car is the result of many years of development, researching and testing to get to the desired results. Those wheel adapters do nothing good for your car. They're increasing the distance between wheels, which means a lot of downforces on them and the wheel assembly, the wheel are causing more drag, because they've been placed outside the optimal line and the worst thing is that you have no clue about how much the forces acting on the wheels are gonna be increased, proportional, with the speed. Falks, don't do that to your cars !
I'll be making a video about all that soon, but thanks for sharing!
Me while watching the start. Bruh use the mustang and do a J-turn
Does anyone know if it is safe to do this on FWD cars?
3
Will this work on a volvo s60R
...I'll bet that tire still rubs on the sway bar in hard cornering where the tire deforms from weight transfer of the body. Yes? Maybe?
If you think 25mm spacer is bad, whistlin diesel has 4ft spacers
You can also put the tie rod ball joint closer to the lower control arm balljoint.
I wish i live in the alternate reality where chrisfix works on gm models.
🙌🏽
Great channel! But please... Get rid of that bad habit and don't reverse grip the steering wheel! ;)
Now that's an improvement ~ chris fix 2018
Still haven't gotten a video on wheel spacers
Awesome Man!!!
Hey guys Chrisfix here today I am going to show you how to REDUCE the steering angle on my car 🤣
:p
1:46: Chris’s Mustang 1:53: Parent’s Fiesta
In some countries wheels cannot stick out of the car's contour. And usually the stock wheels are already all the way outside as they can. So using spacers would be illegal...
u mean more positive offset not negative
watching this two years in the future. sucks that wheel spacers are illegal in australia.
@alliwantedwasapepsi 👍
Is there any way to decrease braking distance and make them more “sensitive?”
Get spacers and space them out
7:25
Haha I guess I'm screwed if I want more steering. I have so much negative offset that I had to use a half inch spacer just to get my rims to fit😂
Just use the handbrake lol
Zzzzzzzzzz That's why they make mechanics.
A mechanic also called a fucking bastard, would charge you 500 for see if there are those little plastic shitd
ChrisFix:enjoys the sound of mustang. MamaFix:Think it’s a lion in the yard. 🤣🤣😂
Mate please stop killing the safety features
It's not a safety feature
👍
Can I do this on my frontwheeldrive car?
Yes, if it has a rack limiter
Can you do this with a Fwd car? I have a Mitsubishi Eclipse with a terrible turn radius!
If there are limiters, yes
Chris: *modifies/tunes/fixes cars* vehicles: *IM A CELEBRITY!!!*
Ever make that video about spacers? Tried to look through your videos but didn’t see anything.
I would a assume those rack limiters are there to protect the steering rack seals when at full lock?
They install them so if you install wider tires (common mustang mod), it won't rub!
Wonder what the neighbor said while watching this guy just going around with his car
My car steering left side hard turn right side soft turn what should I do ?
Check the fluid level, as it might be low (and if it is, top it off and see if you have a line or something in the system leaking so you can fix it), if everything looks good then check ball joints or strut bearings, and if those are good then the spool valve in your rack might be stuck, and the only real way to fix that is to get your steering rack replaced.
Sorry for the offtopic but where can i find the rubber you use for the lifting jack plz?
I checked for the wheels spacers video but didn't find it. Is it online or not yet ?
Not yet
10:40 we're now turning just as sharp as a compact for fiesta. so uhhh. what if I did this to my ford fiesta?
You'd probably flip the car in a turn at high speeds or fishtail like crazy🤣
What front tires are those plz tell me Chris and what size and stuff ? Thanks g
Where do you put the jack stands. Is there a specific place to place them
Specific? No You can place them anywhere on the frame
K-Turns SUCK!
how tf did i come here
@ChrisFix of course😊
Did you at least enjoy the video?
Thank you so much for this. Even tho I’m 14 I’m still inspired by you to go buy a drift car when I am older!
Is this a joke?
No why would it be?
Ok that begining transition was fire
10:18, i hear a little kids voice
where's the wheel spacer video?
That will be here very soon! Stay tuneeeed!
1:47 Grove Street, home
Follow the 10 commandments Christians and ask for forgiveness
What
I just checked my bimmer doesn’t have rack limiters :(
Hello. I would like to full captions. Many thanks. I love your video. Cheers
nah i love K turn. i have more practice than U turn. for K turn we haw another name. It is swallow s tail rough translation
U turn is way better
I wonder how Grove Street families allowed you to shoot video in their hood.. 🤔
You could use a lil handbrake and just send it
My wheels on my mustang hit my sway bar when I'm not even fully turned, will I need spacers or is there something else I could do? (This without any modifications, just 17 inch wheels instead of stock 16)
Yes you should put the old wheels back on, or add spacers
Good vid for folks who don't know about cars. ----sometimes, on my own vehicles, I replace the clamps, e.g., when doing a cooling system flush, with regular hose clamps. Not only do they hold better, you can adjust the tension on them, but they are also, to me, easier to work with. ESP., when you put the boot back on, it obviously is not tight anymore. -----Those "Wheel adapters" are wheel spacers. By using them, you are changing the pressure points on the suspension and bearings, wheel offset, adding more pressure to the studs, changing the wheel alignment, and tire wear could become uneven, to name a few. -----It increases scrub radius. This increases pressure on the steering rack. All these changes can make the steering wheel feel jerky over bumps, etc., affecting steering control and the tires no longer have the car's weight in the middle, or as close as possible to the middle, thus in wet or other conditions such as maneuverability can lead to wheel slippage and an accident. -----Eventually, based on my 28 years of experience, the wheel bearings or something wear prematurely and even break, even a steering rack, which ends up costing the customer boat loads of money to fix. They are considered "Safe," if installed properly, but they also can change the reactions of the suspension components, which could potentially lead to an accident. ----
Him: “we have plenty of room” Also him: (can’t even fit a finger in there)
My 2004 Acura has the turning radius of a truck- worse than some trucks. I saw that stat before I bought it and didn’t think it mattered ... it does. Lots of K-turns through the years. This video was amazing. So simple! Of course I’m not going to do it. I don’t do stuff- I watch other people do stuff and make K-turns.
30 right/25 Left would be completely wrong, it should be the other way around on the left wheel.
Why is the angle not the same on both sides?
I know how chris is gonna die With bad made jackstands
Im still a kid and i love watching his vids hope i can help my dad out with these vids
@Veni Vidi Vici thank you so very much stay safe out there 😊
Wow. Here I thought kids like yourself only care about Fortnite. Good job young man. Make your father proud.
@ChrisFix Thank you very much godbless stay safe
I'm glad you're still watching the videos! I'm sure you will be able to help out soon enough!
Are there any kind of shifters that are similar to this style? Hybrid racing only makes them for Honda's and Acuras, so I wanted to see
??
It’s the driftstang, just drift the U turn. LOL
One little note about holding your steering wheel at the lock: RTFM. Your manual usually will spec how long is considered safe. Ford specs 12 seconds.
Hey Chris, what brand is your rechargeable impact wrench?
Milwaukee
O
O
Looks like reverse Ackermann steering which is not ideal for low speed maneuvers.
You are correct, but because of the increase in steering angle and the positives of reverse ackerman for drifting, that is a compromise I was willing to make, and when I drove around like this for a while, I never noticed a negative from doing this!
Is the stock limited a different plastic than the PVC? If so, does that affect anything?
It wouldn't affect anything!
Doesn't this disobey Ackermann steering? According to Ackermann steering, the steering angle of the inside tire should be greater. Meaning when making a left turn, the driver side tire should have a greater steering angle than the passenger side tire, but in this video, its the opposite. Thank you for anyone who replies, this will help me a lot in a research paper I'm writing.
...or if you are crazy just yamg the handbrake
In some states of Australia, aftermarket wheel spacers are illegal. Although wheel spacers fitted from the factory are exempt.
Interesting, thanks for sharing!
