How to Install a Hidden Kill Switch in your Car or Truck (Cheap Anti Theft System)
Instead of installing an expensive car alarm system or using ineffective methods to prevent your car from getting stolen, learn how to install an inexpensive, hidden kill switch. simplisafe.com/dreamcar
This kill switch is easy to install and anyone can do it at home with basic tools. It can also work along with your car's current alarm system. How it works is it cuts the power to the fuel pump so you cannot jump start the car, hot wire it, or even push start it. In order to steal the car you need to tow it! It is better than a batter quick disconnect because your computer wont restart and you wont lose your radio stations.

Imagine a burglar watching this video and steals your car
?
?
@Agent 47 seriously?
Chris you should make a video where you add the anti theft system to a car and leave the key inside it and doors unlocked to see if someone would try and steal it. Also have a cop there Incase someone does try and steal it, the cop would bust em right there.
thx dude this helped a lot of kiled my car when someone was trying to get in
Nobody: SimpliSafe Agents: I will watch your Garage with great interest.
Just remove the relay
Instead of an ignition kill switch(button) wouldn't it be more secure to have an ignition kill LOCK with a physical key that is only with you ??? Thieves nowadays know this and it won't take very long for them to find this switch and disable it easily.
Hey Chris, where can I buy the center punch
*best way to not get your car stolen:* don't have a car :D
True!
NO WAY THE TESLA CYBERTRUCK
There is this switch in an American anti-terrorism movie
Dang, dude has a lot of cars. Congratulations on the dream car. I hope to own an 84-85 k10 someday
Do it slav way take off steering wheel
I had a Z24 that I used to pull the fuel injector fuse when I would park it. It worked great because someone tried to steal the car and couldn't get it started.
Thanks for sharing!
Another anti-theft system can just be a gun
the car is a toyota bru at 1:07
My car does not have a relay, it has a fuce... Can I use a circuit holder? And what fuse should I use to power the kill switch? Fuel pump fuce is 20amp.
Use a original switch right on the dashboard...
This is one of the best instructional videos I’ve ever seen. Lots of information conveyed quickly. Great editing... no big pauses or down time. And your voice is speech upbeat
This is also how they stole ChrisFixs Honda
huh?
That is Awesome WOOOOOH
A smart car theft criminal would kno this and all you have to to is go remove that kill switch cable and rewire it to original cable and start it up
Thanks for sharing, most criminals are looking steal a car pretty quickly so cutting the wire and rewiring it isn't going to be worth it most of the time!
Soapy wooder!!!!! Love your detailed explanations, you’ve been a great help to all car needs
what if a thief is watching the vid?
If the thief watch this video can stole your car
you could've installed the connectors like that: male+female on the kill switch' male+female on the relay ends of cable. That way, if you ever want to drop the switch and bypass it altogether, you can just connect the relay cables to one another
I never thought I would be so happy to hear a car not start
WOW !!! GREAT video ChrisFix. Very very specific and detailed, THANK YOU !!!
Do kill switches works on automatic cars? Also does it work on "push to start" car? I am curious
You're like the Bob Ross of automechanics.
Back during communist times in Poland we would have these kind of slide in radios, like the radios were not built in, so every time we parked we would take the whole damn radio with us to make sure it is not stolen.
What if you have a Tesla
how do I put this on my Tesla
If you drive a stick you probably do not need a kill switch
Lol
@12:41 you can see the switch end through a hole in the boot, but that is probably nothing to worry about. It might pay to make it more bulbous and less likely to wear a hole in the boot in that spot with some heat shrink built up, then black vinyl electrical tape over the switch end take make it invisible if there is a hole already.
They can bypass and get into your garage fairly easy
Do keyless entry installation on it
Killswitch Engaged
:o
I like the toggle switch you had with the two wires coming out of it. I couldn't find any like that online (with two wires). Where or how can I get one like you use?
Why am I watching this video I dont even have a car yet but its amusing
Him watching this
who is gonna steal a crappy 300 dollar honda
1:08 the Toyota logo lmao
and that's why the shadow clan territory has cameras not only on the driveway, but in the warehouse where my 11 vehicles are stored and where i do woodworking and build things. i am constantly alert of people on the property, and i have my cameras set up to where they go off loud like a alarm clock (exept it's just constant beeping), when someone activates a motion sensor, located next to the 2 garage doors, and at the entrance gate. the last intruder got himself beheaded, basically where i cut his head off.
Could you do the same thing but with the starter relay?
Iam 16 I don't even have a car
Use two switches one at the relay and one hidden somewhere this way they will flip the switch on the relay and then be confused because it's not starting
Lmfao.. it's a shit Honda! Lol.
If someone came up with the method similar to putting a potato in the exhaust that would be another incentive.
Awesome idea thanks for shared..!👍
Tools 1:50 Diagram 2:05
Only problem with this strategy is that you likely will throw a code because the ECU (computer) won't be able to talk to the fuel pump or relay ...
Wow helpful video
i would make the connectors Male/female on each pair of wires, that way you could easily undo this mod by just connecting the two wires from the car.
Just buy a car with a manual transmission.
The wire you described as the trigger wire isn't the trigger, but it'll still work. Also, your car has a fuel system problem. It should have had enough fuel pressure to start, the die out.
Damn you live in the hood
4:22 poor multimeter. What did it do to get grounded
Now anybody can steal your car
ChrisFix: "It's cheap and easy, only about $10." Also ChrisFix: "You're gonna need these $30 in parts and $80 in tools." I already have everything there, but you kinda fibbed the first part just going off the price of the crimp connectors, wire and switch. You can also use some cheaper tools. I would list the switch location in your user manual or remove it before you sell it.
The one good thing about covid is that more past, present and future criminals will die
1:07 - has anyone noticed the Toyota badge on the S2000
I thought that thread locker bottle was a ketchup bottle. 😂
Chris, that is perhaps the best “how to“ video I have ever seen. Clear and succinct narration and visuals. Well done sir.
Thanks a lot
Me: oh shoot Criminal: yes thank you for letting me know
Me: oh shoot Criminal: yes thank you for letting me know
Finally, someone who has Blinker Fluid. :)
Some years ago I installed a even better kill switch. It came assembled with a barrel key push lock that had a cable going through the fire wall to a hood latch . Even if I was surprised and told to get out of car I could lock the unit with my right foot as I got out of car and walk away fast while calling a cop. (locked hood and shorted out starter and no way to unlock without the key)
Does this work on a Diesel engine? Is there any dangers of using it on a diesel?
Not a car expert, but I do know electrical wiring in general. I've done a lot of electrician work, and most of the principles of electricity are effectively universal. I'll start by making an assumption about cars: Both Diesel and Gasoline fueled cars use a relay to the fuel pump as shown in the video. This would make sense since it's a simple and reliable way to control the electrical components inside the car. If that is the case, you would follow an almost identical procedure to rig a kill switch to the computer output for the relay trigger. If that is the way it works, there should be just as much danger as turning off the ignition of the car with the key. Even if you nudged the kill switch while driving all that would do is stop the flow of fuel into the engine, which would simply stop the engine, as if you had turned off the ignition while the car was in operation. (Which people do to turn it off, albeit usually with the car in park or neutral). So I would wager a guess that there isn't actually any danger, but I'd let the car expert who posted the video say for sure, assuming he knows his diesel engines. Note: there are some fundamental differences in the way that diesel engines work. The most notable being that they don't use spark plugs and simply use the compression of the piston to heat the fuel to ignition point instead of firing it with a plug like a gasoline car. But I don't think they're different enough to warrant a completely unique relay system for the fuel pump. All the computer is doing is sending a signal to turn ON the relay for the fuel pump so it can be primped and then run constantly until you turn the ignition off, so there shouldn't be any danger of interfering with data signals or anything like that since it's simply a zero(off)/one(on) (Binary) output. I'd say it's safe.
Y do u have so many cars?
Now stealers view your trick
I feel very sad about your buddy. Saved money for it and then horrible thing happen.
The only flaw I see is that a crook who is knowledgeable can find the relay and short across the connections of your switch. Not all crooks are smart, however, so it is still a good idea.
It can be installed on bike?
I'm on it ! I only need ..... everything.
I have two questions. Will this prevent your battery from dying. And if your car is already running and you flip the switch off will it stop
It does not protect the battery from dying as it does not control power from the battery. If you watch the video again, you might notice that the only power he's affecting with the switch installation is the line directly to the fuel pump relay and therefore only controls the power to the fuel pump. If you turn the switch off while driving it would have the same affect as turning off the ignition at the key. Nothing drastic is going to happen, you car won't explode, the engine will just shut off. You'll end up coasting. You can easily reset the switch and start the engine again, but I'd advise you to keep it in a location where you won't accidentally bump it, or use a switch that turns on and stays on until you de-energize the circuit for the fuel relay, also known as a triac switch. Basically it would turn on, and stay on, until you cut the power by turning the key in the ignition to off, at which point it would automatically reset and go into the 'off' position again. While running, the switch, when turned on manually by you, would stay on no matter how many times you bumped it jostled it. Again, the only way to turn that kill switch to off, would be to turn the key to the off position in the ignition, which would reset it to off again and be ready for you to activate it again next time you want to start the car.
Well now we know how to break into his car 😂🤣
@ChrisFix oh 🤣
You think it was kept that way? Now the switch tases you if you try to flip it.
Its gonna cost 10 bucks...if you have the tools😂
When an robbers hearing what he's saying be like:👁️👄👁️
Check it out , I had a car wired with a electrical kill switch and a gas cut off switch and a steering wheel lock and parked by my bedroom window and they still stole my car. THEY TOWED IT AWAY. If they want it bad enough they will steal it. I know it happened to me.
"I'm gonna shut the car...." * Its doors were already closed. "And I'm gonna start 'er back up." * No you're not!
"Heat-shrinked"? Haha, oops! I think you meant "heat-shrunk."
Since your kill was based on opening the connection in that wire, then the only thing shorting it would do is just enable the starting of the car even if the switch is off.
@Shalmendo: I know. I was saying that in this case, shorting it would enable it. He sounded worried that if the wires got shorted that would be a major problem. But it would just enable the car. The opposite kind of kill switch would only work on a gasoline or gas-powered vehicle because it relies on the shorting of spark source to ground.
Can't start the car without the fuel pump in operation, as it will have no fuel. Most thieves will focus on the ignition system, not the fuel pump. And yes they could bypass it but they'd have to cut the wires and put them back together to get the car to run. Most thieves won't want to take the time, or aren't equipped for some quick rewiring of that nature.
Ima tell my Aunty to do that
Please make a toggle switch panel video with push start button and toggle fuel pump. Please 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
Anti theif kit: Removable steering wheel Removable gear lever Killer switch Manual car Car alarm
Or an unfriendly German Shepherd in the passenger’s seat!
Lol
The enchanting missile adversely attract because risk premenstrually apologise but a icky cat. cheap, warlike pvc
Dont want car to get stolen take the fuel relay out and put it in ur pocket dont lose it
Damn then chris fix realize a rober is watching
Put quick releases on the wires so he can take it off easily then proceeds to tape it so they are Secure😂
Good video. I wouldn't hide the switch under the shifter boot, you'll wear a hole in it in no-time.
It will not protect it against the smart she’s super magnet was screwed it up
Add a flamethrower to your anti burglary system... would really send a crisp message to anyone who dares to break in lol
Thief says " Next time we will look for kill switch wire and cut the kill switch wire then rewire it to original".
Man this saved my miata I just got an mx5 and installed an kill switch. A month later a man tried to steal my dream car sadly no one catched him but now i feel safer
1. Steal a car. 2. Install a kill switch on it so nobody else can steal it from you. 3. Profit.
Robbers be like: ok noted
This guy actually gives the best small tips when working on cars things I've learned while working with my dad like testing before you put everything back because some times it might be tempting to just put everything back until you find out it didn't work
Thanks man! That’s the goal!
If you have an older car with a mechanical fuel pump, interrupt the ignition coil 12V supply with your switch.
thief can just follow the wire??? if they r experience they know where the kill switch is connected
Lol what if the criminal is watching this video 9 million views you never know wink wink
Now every car thief on the planet knows the best place to look for a kill switch. 🤔
