Learn how to replace rusty leaf springs, shackles, and leaf spring mounting brackets in your truck or suv. • Chris, how did the rust reformer and undercoating combo hold up after 2 years? Also, did you use acetone or anything after wire-wheeling the surfaces?

  • Caution with the rubberized undercoating - when it develops holes, it will actually trap the salinated water and it will rust from the inside out. It’s probably better to finish painting and then apply POR-15, regularly apply fluid film, or take the car in for a yearly undercarriage oil spray.

  • Hey Chris, very helpful video. I used this vid to completely replace my rear suspension on my 98 ranger. Instead of undoing the massive 21mm bolt like u did from the bigger, front bracket like you did, I drilled out all 4 rivets and replaced those brackets to. In doing this, I had to cut that bracket that holds the ebrake, as seen at 5:06. I was wondering if you knew where I could find one of those brackets?

  • Thats not safe at all. a piece of wood or brick ? seriously... use a proper chock or make one. And would be safer to lift the entire truck. not just the rear in my opinion. Also you should note not all pickup trucks can be lifted by the differential. That mazda is a piece of trash/ engineering fail. I had the aerostar which shared alot with the ford ranger/ mazda pickups but the suspension never rusted out that bad even though nothing was left of lower body from rust. nice video otherwise.

    Darrin NelsonDarrin NelsonPrieš mėn
  • what about removing a bushing while the front side of the leaf spring is still bolted. i am thinking of doing this on a Ford Explorer. and to add a leaf you only unbolt the rear of the spring...

  • Hey @chrisfix any recommendations on u bolts for this kind of lift?

  • Hey Chris, great video! I really enjoyed how you went through everything clearly and thoroughly. Thanks for working so hard to make such good content. I'm wondering where did you find the torque specs for the new spring mount bolts? I have a factory service manual and it just says "rivet" without a torque spec for replacement. Haha. Guess they never thought that you'd fix them...
