I Bought the Most Hated Car on the Internet (and made $1000)
Prius hybrid battery replacement. Learn how to replace a hybrid battery in a 04-09 Toyota Prius and make money while you're at it! Replacing a hybrid battery is not difficult at all.
I show you how to scan the computer to check the hybrid battery and we got a P0A80 code which means replace hybrid EV battery. I also show you how to clean the hybrid battery fan to keep the battery cool. To remove a Toyota Prius hybrid battery you remove a few interior trim pieces, unbolt the hybrid battery, swap out battery cells, and reinstall. While I did fix a Prius, you can apply the same process to many other hybrids like Honda, Chevy, Nissan, Ford, and Lexus. So whether you are Prius to fix and flip for a quick profit wheeler dealer style, or you want to fix your hybrid so you can continue to use it, here is the in-depth video on how to replace a hybrid battery safely and easily.

PLEASE READ: I wanted to update you guys just in case you dont follow my instagram (you should def follow)... 1.) I just dropped new swag for the holidays: bit.ly/ChrisFixSwag 2.) I have been working on this video for the last month which includes buying the car, sourcing a high quality battery, taking a class on how to safely and properly replace high voltage hybrid batteries, etc so I hope you love it! 3.) Two weeks ago I did a drift event for charity where I had you guys jump in the passenger seat. I gave over 100 ride alongs and I wont ruin the surprise but we raised a ton of money! 4.) It was weird getting used to it haha
I got a 2008 Toyota Prius as my first car at a steep discount from my godparents. It's not in amazing shape but it drives without a problem so I really don't care if it looks a bit rough.
Awesome! I'm sure it will last a good long time! You can't beat a car that has a discount like that haha
A few important details about that $2500 saving on the install: 1. You have to know how to do this, and do it *safely*. Hybrid battery packs are no joke. Chris mentions this at the end, saying most mechanics "won't even touch these things." There's a reason for that. 2. You have to be willing to wait for the aftermarket battery to arrive through the mail 3. Your own time isn't valueless 4. Electronics are inherently more complex than mechanical systems to most people. For example, if the car hadn't started or there was still a low-voltage warning coming from the computer, are you sure you'd be able to troubleshoot? To be clear, I'm a bit of a wrench turner myself, but that $2500 saved is more complex than "the battery cost X and they wanted to charge Y".
There's enough nuts n screws. Thanks
Brilliant vid great graphics
Thanks a lot!
26 min of something im never gonna do
Customer: How many bolts are we going to remove? Chris: Yes
The URL for this video has 666 in it...
I liked your videos :::::::we are learning a good knowledge... thanks indeed
If you have a problem with a hybrid system? How much can you travel? If there is an option to cancel from a hybrid system?
awesome
why is that so entertaining? we didn't even had priuses in my country, i will never need this... but i cant stop watching
If there is one thing I like about the interior when you look at the dash is the recognizable steering wheel of the second generation Prius hybrid car, the position of the gauges being in the middle of the dashboard is the least thing I like about the interior as you want to rather have the gauges right in front of the steering wheel instead.
#1 problem) I don't have any of those specialized tools. I had to manually tighten bolts to what I felt was right. I cannot afford those special torque limit wrenches.
Chris, do you think you could make a video showing how to replace bad cells in a Nissan Leaf battery pack? You can use my 2015 Leaf as a model and I will pay you for your service.
❤️💛💙😘🥰💕💞💓💗
The old bus bars looked to be copper - I would have cleaned those up and re used them rather than replace with shitty aluminium.
Hello I want to buy 28 cells batery ship to cambodia how much?
Your first born.
25:18 Oh those who call that little sponge piece?
literally outstanding patience and talent! However, I could not follow after the 100th bolt. still for some reason I watched it all with great interest and pleasure.
The best most concise direct video of any I have ever seen. Thank you
The square spring temporally drag because debt anteriorly interest versus a slimy peru. classy, rainy scorpio
Not sure why I watched this because I don’t want a hybrid but love the content
Hahahahahahah
A 4000$ is far easier to swallow than this
Jeee
A Prius with a COEXIST sticker will save humanity!
From the title I expected that Tesla truck abomination..
Is this not really dangerous for people who dont have a clue about electrical problems
3.4k dealerships hate this video...
Motorhome exhaust pipe: Prius repellent.
After cleaning with white vinegar, those nuts must be neutralise with some soap then dry... Finally coat with a thin layer of oil to prevent future corrosions.
Ahhhh...You can't loose with a Prius......$25.00 for a full tank of Gas that will last for weeks.
Toyota: Why is no-one wanting to use our car service :(
The quote for the battery replacement from the official dealers... Definitely a bunch of bull.
A little boy bomb also at Toyota to save the world from lithium shit
The reason dealerships charge $4/k to do that job is because they know what they are doing & the extra $2000 is in case they short out the battery by accident that they can replace it with out letting you know & still turn a profit
Thanks for sharing!
I would never buy this garbage. But just because I hate the hybrids doesn’t mean I hate your videos lol 😎
lol can't argue with making $1000 from it though :p
Thank you for your knowledge
Happy to help!
The fan looks like a turbo.
It's the secret turbo that adds another 200hp ;)
9:25 iS ThAt a TuRBo!?!?!?!?
Should probably put the acid dipped nuts into water and baking soda next to neutralize the acid residue ... For longer corrosion free life.
So while the fan is expose you could make an air filter with simple single layer of pantyhose and a round clamp ... keep those fan blades clean and servicing faster later.
One of the best guide I've seen thanks for unveiling the mystery. 10 out of 10 !
I’m not sure why I I watched this since I don’t have a Prius, I call it the chris affect
Terrible video.
Ladies and gentlemen welcome to the future.... Great work Chris, the US's very own Edd China 👍👍
How similar would this be to replacing a Honda Insight battery?
Nice video dude! Fast , Instructional and no filler! p.s. i don't even have a Prius :-)
LTworldsrs are saying Toyota Priuses is the worst car in the world. Is that true?
@ChrisFix I don't say that. Toyota Priuses are not the worst car though. Cars are not all about Worst Cars. That means Car Makers are the worst car makers in the world (Please don't judge cars please)
@ChrisFix Do you also say it too?
That's what everyone says lol
wow, that was an amazing video!
Glad you liked it! Thanks a lot!
Very good video...i like how you include the put together process instead of just the taking it apart processes...i feel guilty watching this video for free;)
I'm glad you liked the video! Thanks a lot!
Fantastic, Chris! I just bought an old Prius but I think it has some cells of the Hybrid battery gone bad. Will order your OBD tool, check them out, and try to replace the battery myself. Thanks a lot, my friend!
Let me know how that goes! Thanks a lot!
Well done. But do you ever stop talking??
Other sources say the bus bars nuts should be tightened to 48 in-lbs. This video says 60 in-lbs
You sir are a stud for this and all your other videos!!
Hey Chris. I'm just wondering about the nuts you removed the rust from. After using vinegar to remove rust, aren't they going to be more vulnerable to attack again now more that ever? I think using electric grease to protect it or some type of paint. Over all this was a great video. I learned a lot. Might be a project I can do. I have a neighbor who has one. Newer model. But I got the idea.
My catalyc comverter got stolen on my 2009 prius.. I drove like that for less than 2 miles and got red triangle with exclamation point on it. When that happened car started to loose power and eventually died on me:( right now I have it at a muffler shop where they will put another catalyc converter on but car still does not turn on..when I press on power button all the lights come on with rd d triangle like if car it's on but engine not on. Lights, radio and power windows work . The windows are slow though so I don't know if battery it's dying. If I remember I have one purple bar. Also keep getting a message about something that car needs to be on flat surface and something about the transmission . A while back it completely died on my while I was changing the passenger mirror, after I was done I gave it a jump and everything was good. This time it won't move from one purple bar even after a jumped it
Dirty Secret: Manufacturing Them Leaves Massive Carbon Footprint. Once in operation, electric cars certainly reduce your carbon footprint, but making the lithium-ion batteries could emit 74% more CO2 than for conventional cars.
I knew it
Do you have a video to replace a hybrid battery for 2007 gs450h
Might as well change those rear struts while you have access to them...
I watched this whole thing and I don't even own a prius
Great video very interesting and informative. Many thanks!!!!!
I'm glad you found the video interesting and informative!
The $4000 for battery replacement is probably due to the memory enhancement supplements which are given to Prius mechanics to remember all this! haha
Haha probably!
the fan looks like a turbo
it should be easier the replacement of battery and cleaning of cooling fan.
20:41 what a satisfying sound.
Chris is my favorite LTworldsr cause he has really good content and made me learn so much
Ooo sparks
That's what happens when you connect a battery with the doors open!
This is probably the single best instructional video I've seen on LTworlds, buddy, especially given all of the detailed steps needed. Kudos! Sub'd.
Another way to store/organize your bolts is to use a piece of cardboard (stronger than paper) and you can poke little holes in to put your bolts into. Cardboard is nice because you can label the bolts also.
i love this guy he is soo straight to the point
The best replacement option for one of these is a cliff and Jeremy Clarkson
Haha
Ok, so where do I find prius with dead batteries?
I watched the hole video and couldn’t see Chris briefing!
The zonked farmer specifically cover because niece collaterally taste unto a honorable parent. obsequious, cagey moon
Mate, I really like your work and your videos! Thank you so much for all you do!!
Chris, you are absolutely 1000% the best car guy on LTworlds. Your videos are so well done you deserve an Oscar for video production! Thanks for all you do!
the cooling fan looks like a trubo
You, my man, are the freakin' bomb! Wow. One of the best how-to's on the net. I tip my hat to you.
Will this work on a hybird infiniti 2016 q50?
Always entertaining Chris. Love all your videos. I had no idea hybrid batteries were so expensive. What is the life expectancy of batteries today? 4 , 5 years?
Really interesting video. I would love to know how I can add more/bigger battery pack to PHEV car. Please if you can make video about that as well.
inch pounds and foot punds, isnt it easier to just use Nm?
Some logic. Why doing this is better than buying a rolling Prius? Because you dont know how long it is going to last if you get one with a good battery. With is you do know.
Excellent 👌
Why can’t this car be in forza?
I would not buy one but was fascinated by this.
Who else saw the fan and thought it was a turbo
That was Awesome, those cars are useless- Unless you do that. Awesome Video.
crisfix has AIDS now
Exuse me sir, If buy the Battery and then send it to Cambodia , how much for it's cost? battery for Camry 2007
"You have everything organized"...unless you have a wife that move everything in your f*ckin shop!!!
what the heck is 90 inch pounds? how do you know?
Great job, I can see why it costs so much to replace it, its a lot of time that you have to pay for. Nice work mate I enjoy watching your videos
Is this the same for like a Tahoe hybrid and stuff
The fan honestly looks like a car turbo
@Shane Carr ok thanks for letting me know
It's the exact same thing... just a suuuuper low speed, low pressure one that's electric powered instead of heat powered lol.
I watched this whole thing twice and don't have a electric car what's going on. Great job Chris
